Product Description The product is presented as dried hibiscus flower and dried split ginger processed at acceptable moisture content under sanitary measures.

The product is primarily packaged in sealed grade sack that can withstand rough handling that is properly arrange and manage in the warehouse, with spacing of at least 3M from each wall and walkway, frequent cleaning of warehouses, moisture management through opening and closing of windows at the right time.

Ginger

Receiving

ginger

Receiving is the first stage of the flow chart and our CCP1 begins here. Farmers provide the dried split ginger for us. At this point, the moisture content is determined using a moisture meter instrument (moisture content < 10%), and the quality of the dried split ginger is also checked (i.e foreign materials in the products).

Temporary Storage (Holding) and Cleaning

The dried ginger is moved to a temporary storage, the temporary storage is made  up of two warehouses, warehouse 5 and warehouse 6 where the dried ginger is prepared for further processing. The dried ginger bags are stacked on pallets in the warehouse. The company has a team made up of 50 people (40 women and 10 men). The workforce is responsible for cleaning each batch of the stored ginger. Impurities such as dirt, sand, stones, and rotting and defective ginger are removed from the batch.

All foreign materials are removed to maintain the quality and integrity of the products. At the end of this exercise, the ginger is bagged and prepared for permanent storage. The workers are provided with nose masks, hand sanitizers/ hand washing facility, and hairnets during the operation to enhance food safety and reduce hazards to workers. Workers are well trained on food safety guidelines. The facility is equipped with modern sanitation and toilet facilities, bathroom, and changing room.

Cleaning / Checking

After sample collection and testing, ginger that passed the lab test are brought out for cleaning. Before the permanent storage, the product is verified to meet the minimum grade required for admittance in the importing country. The checks are thorough, every form of mistakes is eliminated at this stage.

Permanent Storage (Cleaned Ginger)

The cleaned ginger is moved into second storage. Warehouse 3 and warehouse 4. The dried ginger is stored in sacks and bagged neatly. The warehouse provides pallets on which the bags are neatly placed. They are stored at a safe distance from the walls.

The bagged dried ginger is transported to the seaport in properly covered trucks and neatly stacked.

  • Colouring: Homogenous fresh yellow colouring with lowest trace/admixtures, No off-colouring/discoursed pieces for highest purity; No admixtures of mouldy or soiled/pieces.
  • Moisture absorbers: absorbers must be handled/placed carefully to avoid a leakage;

Chlorpyrifos-Ethyl and Methyl are accepted only a maximum residue level of 0.01 MG/KG and within the margin of error of the chemical analysis.

Receiving

At this point, the moisture content is determined using a moisture meter instrument (moisture content < 10%), and the quality of the hibiscus flower is also checked (i.e foreign materials in the products).

The workforce is responsible for cleaning each batch of the stored hibiscus.

Impurities such as dirt, sand, stones, and rotting and defective hibiscus flowers are removed from the batch. All foreign materials are removed to maintain the quality and integrity of the products.

Sample Collection/ Analysis:

Samples are taken from each batch and are taken for test at the lab. Products with chemical residue are separated from the chemical free products.

They are stored at a safe distance from the walls and at room temperature.

  • Flowers that: Brokens /Siftings: lowest possible result, min 90% whole flowers, max. 10% brokens and max. 5% siftings within the max. 10% brokens
  • Valid pesticide portfolio to be advised by buyer Cholorhpyrifos/Chorpyrifos -methyl max. 0,01 mg/kg and within the margin of error of chemical analysis
